We are the three bears

So tonight JT made the comment that we are like the three bears. It has always been something that we joke about, papa bear, mama bear and baby bear. But tonight JT added Yeager as Goldilocks. He sleeps in (on) our bed and eats our food! If he starts breaking furniture he is in BIG trouble!

More games for my school project

I spent some time over the break making a few more boardgames as examples for my students. I think I am having too much fun with this project...hopefully the kids are too!

Do you want to see something really cool?

About four years ago I bought this funny little plant while we were on a visit to Antelope Island. It is the coolest thing. I don't know any technical terms for it but the package says "Resurrection Plant". If it is out of water it is a dry crisp little ball, but when you put it into water it revives, opens up, turns green and gets soft! When you take it out of the water it dries up and curls back into a little dry ball. It can apparently stay dormant for at least 50 years and still "resurrect", how Cool is that!

First into the water:

After one hour:

After two hours:
After about 10 hours:

Anyone need some popcorn?

Bri's science project was "Which brand of popcorn leaves the most unpopped kernels?". She popped three bags of six different brands to get a good result. That gave us 18 bags of microwave popcorn to basically throw away. We have been munching on popcorn for the past week while she has been gathering data, and we pawned some off to a neighbor so they could enjoy it over the weekend, but that is seriously a lot of popcorn!

Today Bri spent all day working on her poster. It is due on Wednesday and I told her it had to be done today or we could not go play and scrap tomorrow. She started on it at about 11:00 a.m. and we took final pictures at 10:30 p.m. She had all of the data collection done and just had to record her results and make her board...sounds easy enough! She did a great job and put it all together with only a little help from me, mainly in cutting out letters with my Cricut and a little advice on the set up of her board. She did all of the typing and the graph and sat and glued and pasted all evening. What a trooper! She is happy with the result and I am proud of the work she put into it.

FYI - PopSecret is crappy popcorn, it had by far the most unpopped kernels, and the best...Act II.

Not much going on...

I don't have much to blog about, other than the fact that I can now breathe. I got sick last Saturday, ended up staying home from church on Sunday. I had things I needed to do at work all week and didn't want to miss anything so I worked all week, but didn't have much of a voice. That was fun trying to get the kids to hear me on a loud playground without a voice. A couple of times I ended up blowing my whistle when I was right next to someone just because they could not hear me! I did go to the doctor on Monday and confirmed that I did not have strep so I could be around the kids without infecting them. :)

Bri was a little sick at the beginning of the week. JT stayed home with her on Monday, but she was back to school by Tuesday and feeling fine.

Bri and I are enjoying a four day weekend. We don't have to go back until Wednesday. But she does have some major homework to do tomorrow. Her science project is due on Wednesday. She has collected the data but needs to put it all together and complete her board. She better get it done tomorrow because I want to go play with Marf and Lizzy on Tuesday...Woo Hoo...Scrap Day!

I have been messing around with Facebook a little this weekend, I have been feeling a little left out when Marf tells me all that is going on with members of my family and her friends and I don't have a clue! We will see how that goes...maybe I can have some friends too...

Okay, another obsession

Okay, Becka ratted me out in a comment. I do have another obsession recently. But I have very good reason. I have to stand outside in the cold for two hours every day so I check the weather multiple times each day. This is the reason I found the funny weather bloopers so easily. The only cause for having indoor recess is either rain or weather below 20 degrees, and that can include wind chill. So on Monday this week we were indoors and I was glad to be out of the cold, but it was very hectic trying to keep the kids from bouncing off of the walls. It is a toss up at this point, outside and freezing my buns off or inside and getting a throbbing headache!

Trying to combat the cold has also been something I have been focused on this past month. I bought a really nice new coat at TJ Maxx. It is a Northface puffy down coat that comes almost to my knees (to keep my buns protected!). I also got a pair of wrap around ear warmers (the kind that go under the back of my hair so they don't mess up the top of my head)(I don't like to wear hats because I don't want hat head for the rest of the day)(I know, wearing a hat would probably solve most of my cold issues, but...my hair!), I also got a pair of ski gloves, wear a variety of scarves around my neck and JT gave me big puddle-stomping boots for Christmas so my feet stay toasty warm and DRY!

All this in an effort not to freeze to death on a daily basis. Then the weather has a warm spell and I am sweating in all of my nice warm gear! I miss the nice fall weather we enjoyed not so long ago! Memories....

Fun at work!

I have been very excited about the new unit I am doing with the kids in SEM. I am having them design and make their own board game. The main point of the project is to communicate how to play the game. When they are done they will play their games with each other, then we will switch classes and play the games of another group of students to see if we can understand their instructions and play their game.

Thanks to my brother Russ, who has a basement full of board games that he sells, I was able to have some game boards to decorate around my room. It is very colorful and gets the students ideas flowing.

I also made my own board game. I am encouraging the students to pick a theme for their game, mine is......SODA! I called it SODALICIOUS!

The students seem to be very excited about this unit, and so am I!

Really?!?!

This is TODAY'S weather in SLC! I always thought that you had to go further south to travel to the warm temperatures in the winter, but apparently 20 miles is far enough... happily we are actually having a "warm" day...43 degrees! (Way to go KSL!) (They had this fixed before I even had my blog posted!)

My new obsession

I got this game for Christmas and I can't put it down! ...help me...

Happy New Year 2009!

We had fun ringing in the new year with Marf and her family. Liz and Neil hosted and it was super fun and relaxing. We all brought our Nintindo DS games and linked up and played together, it is really fun linking up with eight people! The rest of the night was filled with hanging out and pigging out on snacks! Thanks for the fun!
